The Delaware Valley Junior Golf Foundation was created because one man wanted to honor his father's memory. Jack Schubert thought the best way to pay tribute to his father was to promote the two things his father loved; golf and children. Thus, junior golf seemed to be the perfect fit.
In 1996, the Foundation hosted an auction and golf tournament to raise the funds needed to send the juniors to golf camp. Due to the overwhelming success, the Foundation was also able to award college scholarships. This has now become an annual tradition. As of June 2006, twenty-four scholarships have been awarded. The Twelfth Annual Delaware Valley Junior Golf Foundation Auction will be held at 5:30 PM on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Horsham Valley Golf Club. Past items for auction have included dinners at many fine restaurants, golf packages and equipment, artwork, autographed sports memorabilia, vacations in Mexico, Hilton Head, the Carolinas, Aruba, St. Maarten and Las Vegas, and tickets to theater as well as sporting events. The annual fund-raising tournament will be a shotgun scramble at 7:30 AM on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Horsham Valley Golf Club. Registration fee is $85. The registration fee includes golf with cart, scats and mulligans, breakfast, lunch, and prizes. All interested parties should contact the Foundation at 500 Babylon Rd., Ambler, PA 19002, by telephone at 215-646-4707 or click here for a registration form .
For the first time in 2000 it was decided that we would also provide funding to one of the areas' junior golf programs in order to be able to benefit and expose more boys and girls to the sport. The funding was awarded to the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Golf Camp 2000 and Playground Golf Programs. Funds raised from 2001 through 2006 were awarded to the PGA Greater Philadelphia Junior Golf Foundation and were allocated to the First Tee Program and the Harry Hammond Cup Scholarships. In the past the Foundation received a certificate of recognition from the House of Representatives of Pennsylvania for the work we have done. In addition, our executive board member and PGA professional, Harry Barbin, received the Junior Golf Leader Award from the Philadelphia Section of the PGA for his work with the Delaware Valley Junior Golf Foundation. Our goal for the future is to continue providing scholarships and funding to local junior golf programs. This year we will also combine our efforts with those of our sister charity out of Horsham Valley Golf Club, the Christine Pyffer Brandt Charities, and purchase an apartment at the Fox Chase Cancer Center Coventry House in honor of Judy Barbin who was always there for us. We are very proud of our accomplishments thus far and look forward to ongoing success. The Foundation would appreciate any support, whether it would be auction items, hole sponsors or participation in our events that anyone may have to offer. Click here for a sponsor form.
