Women's Association

History

Horsham Valley Women's Weekend Golf Association was born on November 19, 1995. The idea sprung from an interest shown by women members at Horsham Valley Golf Club who wanted a chance to play competitive golf on weekends. Twelve women met with the owner, Harry Barbin, and set the groundwork for the league. A Constitution and By Laws were drawn up and the Association became official on January 14, 1996. The first scheduled tee time kicked off the league on Sunday, April 7, 1996.

The purpose of the Association was to have a woman only competition that was guaranteed a game every weekend. Having an opportunity to play with different people and have fun while improving your skills and golf knowledge would be guaranteed by a set block of tee times. Tournament play would give women a chance to experience different types of competition while also having the opportunity to win prizes.

While the league is still growing, there is a real opportunity to make an impact in the way public women's golf is viewed in the local area. As of 1999,the Association began set tee times on Saturday. We have the privilege of being the only weekend prime time weekend women's league in the area.

Membership

The league is open to women 18 years of age or older with a handicap of 40 or less. After filling out an application form, the candidate must play three rounds of golf with different members of the Association. When she has been approved by the membership, an initiation fee and annual dues will ensure her place in the Association. Once she is a member in good standing, she will be eligible for weekly prize money and admittance to the major tournaments.

Women of diverse backgrounds and various occupations compose the league. There will always be good conversation along with a chance to network with diverse enterprises. This is the only prime time weekend women's league in the area.

If you enjoy playing golf, why don't you see what we're all about? We have a good time while being competitive. Golfers can always play as guests. While not being eligible for any of the prizes, it affords an opportunity to evaluate the league and see if it is for you. The Association is always looking for members who will play by the rules of golf, but at the same time have fun and camaraderie with other women.
